Hearty sweet and savory baked beans  with ground beef, bacon, and brown sugar that can be ready in 30 minutes.

Ingredients

- 1 1/2" - 2" thick strip steaks (approx 1 3/4 - 2 lbs) - garlic powder sea salt and black pepper to taste - high-smoke point cooking oil - canola or grapeseed

Equipment

- Sheet pan - Cast iron skillet - Measuring spoons

Step 1

- Place top oven rack in center position - Preheat oven to 250 F

Step 2

- Line a large rimmed, baking sheet with parchment paper - If desired, place a wire rack over the backing sheet.

Step 3

- Season both sides of steak with garlic powder, salt, and pepper - Place steak on parchment paper or wire rack - Let rest for at least 20 minutes prior to roasting

Step 4

- Place steaks in oven - After 20 minutes, check internal temperature with instant read thermometer - Check temps every 5 minutes until (90F - 95F) for medium-rare or (100F - 105F) for medium

Step 5

- Remove the baking sheet from the oven and transfer the steaks to a large, rimmed plate. Cover with foil and rest for 10 minutes.

Step 6

- Add the high-smoke point cooking oil to a large cast iron skillet set over high heat and set your ventilation fan to the highest setting. 

Step 7

- Uncover and pat the steaks completely dry with paper towels - Season with additional garlic powder, salt, and black pepper, as desired.

Step 8

- Once hot, add the seasoned steaks to the skillet and sear on one side for 90 seconds.  - Turn and repeat on the other side for 90 seconds, then sear each edge for 5-10 seconds each. 

Step 9

- Remove from heat and serve immediately with your choice of sides. ** The steaks have already rested, so no need to do so again.
