- Buttermilk - Granulated sugar - Butter and eggs - Pure vanilla extract - All-purpose flour - Baking soda, baking powder, salt - Unsweet cocoa powder - Orange juice, orange zest - Orange extract
- Butter - Buttermilk - Orange extract - Powdered sugar - Unsweet cocoa powder
Combine the buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, orange juice, orange extract, and orange zest. (You’ll want your large bowl for this.) Add the cocoa/butter mixture gradually afterward, stirring it together with your whisk.
In a small bowl, combine the sugar, flour, and salt. Add this to your buttermilk mixture. Blend well.
Pour it into your cake pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Use a wooden toothpick to poke the center of the cake - if it comes out clean, it’s done! Set the cake on a cooling rack and let’s make the frosting.
Make the frosting. Pour the warm frosting on top of the warm cake. Eat immediately!
