Reasons to Love These Sliders
Hawaiian Roll Breakfast Sliders are not only incredibly easy to make but also a mouthwateringly delicious breakfast (or dinner) that will leave your taste buds wanting more.
Perfect for a busy family, this recipe is a time-saver that can be prepared in advance, making it easy for everyone to have a hearty and satisfying breakfast, even on the most hectic mornings.
You'll need ½ pound of ground breakfast sausage for these sliders; use the remaining sausage to make this delicious Cajun Rice Dressing!
Ingredients You'll Need
When making these Hawaiian Roll Breakfast Sliders, use fresh, high quality ingredients for the best flavor.
King's Hawaiian Sweet Rolls - These sweet and soft rolls serve as the tasty vessel that holds all the breakfast goodness together.
Hash Brown Patties - I love to use hash brown patties because they add additional holding power for the bottom of the rolls for the rest of the ingredients that will be added on top of them.
Ground Breakfast Sausage - so much of the rich flavor for these sliders comes from the savory sausage! For a milder slider, you could use ground beef or turkey sausage.
Eggs - fluffy scrambled eggs adds another level of comfort and make the sliders more filling. You could change up the eggs by frying them instead of scrambling.
Cheddar Cheese - who can resist melty cheddar cheese? Cheese slices work well because they lay flat on top of the other ingredients.
Butter-Honey Mixture - mix butter and honey together and spread on top of the rolls before baking; yes, it takes these sliders to the next delicious level. Sweet and savory flavors work together to satisfy all your taste buds!
Everything But the Bagel Seasoning - a little sprinkling of this adds just a small amount of flavor but I really like it for the crunch factor and visual appeal it adds. Poppy seeds will also do the trick.
Ingredient Substitutions
If you want to customize your sliders, you can try variations such as using bacon or ham instead of sausage, or adding vegetables like bell peppers or onions for extra freshness and flavor. Here are some substitutions and additions you might find helpful:
- If you can't find the King's Hawaiian Sweet Rolls, you can use any dinner roll that's about the same size.
- I love using hash brown patties for this recipe; it just so easy to bake them in the oven. But some stores don't carry them, so you can use 1-2 cups of cooked shredded hash browns.
- Instead of ground sausage, you can use sausage patties. Use enough to make an even layer; you might have to cut some of them to make them fit.
- You can can deli ham instead of sausage, or you could do half with ham and half with sausage for a variety.
- Instead of honey, try maple syrup!
- Use your favorite cheese. Pepper jack, mozzarella, and American cheese all work well with these breakfast sliders.
How to Make Them
Step 1 - slice the entire bundle of rolls in half horizontally and place the bottom half in a baking dish.
Step 2 - add a layer of baked hash brown patties.
Step 3 - add a layer of cooked and crumbled sausage.
Step 4 - add a layer of cooked scrambled eggs.
Step 5 - add a layer of cheese!
Step 6 - place the top half of the rolls on top. Brush on butter-honey mixture.
Step 7 - sprinkle Everything But the Bagel Seasoning on top of rolls.
Step 8 - bake in the oven! Enjoy your breakfast slider!
Recipe Tips
- Do not separate each roll, rather use a sharp serrated knife to slice the entire bundle of rolls in half horizontally. Try to make sure the bottom half isn't too thin.
- When building the sliders, get the layers as even as possible so the top of the rolls will fit level on top of the other layers.
- While cooking the sausage and eggs, finely crumble them so that these layers will be even and level.
- Slightly undercook the eggs because they will continue to cook in the oven.
- Customize the butter-honey topping to suit your taste, whether you prefer more or less honey and seasoning.
Storing and Reheating
Store any leftover sliders in an airtight container in the refrigerator. To reheat, place them in the oven at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes or microwave them for a quick warm-up.
How to Make Ahead
Hawaiian Roll Breakfast Sliders are make-ahead friendly! You can make them in advance by assembling them (don't add the butter-honey until you're ready to bake them) and refrigerating them for up to 24 hours before baking. Then when you're ready to bake them, brush the honey-butter mixture on top and bake!
How to Freeze Them
It's best to enjoy the sliders fresh out of the oven but they're still pretty darn good after being frozen! Go ahead and make the sliders and let them cool completely. Then place them in a freezer-friendly container (I would wrap them first in plastic wrap; then place them inside another container). Write the date on the container to help you remember when you put them in the freezer. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight.
Frequently Asked Questions
Hawaiian Roll Breakfast Sliders go wonderfully with a side of fresh fruit, a simple salad, or even a small serving of yogurt.
You can use sesame seeds, poppy seeds, onion flakes, garlic flakes, and a pinch of salt. Or you can just leave it out completely; they'll still be super tasty! I do recommend brushing them with melted butter before baking so that the rolls won't get crunchy.
You shouldn't have a problem with these sliders getting soggy because of the baked hash brown patties. They act as a barrier to help protect the bottom half of the roll from getting soggy from the sausage and/or eggs.

Recipe
Hawaiian Roll Breakfast Sliders
Equipment
- 9 x 13-inch baking dish or 8 x 11.5-inch baking sheet
Ingredients
- 12 King's Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
- 4-5 Hash brown patties Cook however many you will need to make 1 layer. The brand I used had rather large patties so I only needed 4.
- 8 oz Raw, ground breakfast sausage
- 4 Large eggs
- 4 slices Cheddar cheese
Topping
- 3 tablespoon Melted butter
- 1 tablespoon Honey
- Everything But the Bagel Seasoning (just enough for sprinkling on top of rolls)
Instructions
- For the best results, it's recommended to read through the instructions once or twice before you begin making the breakfast sliders.
Breakfast Roll Sliders
- Do not separate each roll, rather use a sharp serrated knife to slice the entire bundle of rolls in half horizontally. Try to make sure the bottom half isn't too thin.
- Spray a casserole dish with non-stick spray. Use a dish that is slightly larger than the bundle of rolls. I use a rimmed 8 x 11.5-inch baking sheet but a 9x13" works fine, too.
- Bake the hash brown patties per package directions. Then place them on paper towels to absorb any oil.
- If needed, adjust oven temp to 350F.
- Cook the sausage in a skillet. Use your spatula to finely crumble it as it cooks (this helps to keep the layer of sausage fairly flat on the rolls), and then place on paper towels to soak up the grease.
- In the same skillet, cook and scramble the eggs. Don't overcook the eggs, they will continue to cook in the oven. Use your spatula to chop the eggs into small pieces (this helps to keep the layer of eggs fairly flat on the rolls). Set aside.
- Place the bottom half of rolls into the prepared casserole dish.
- Layer as follows (layer as evenly and flat as you can. If the layers are too bulky, the top of the rolls won't fit right). Use your fingers to press down on each layer to make sure they're even and flat:- One layer of hash brown patties- One layer of sausage- One layer of eggs- One layer of sliced cheese- Place the top half of the rolls on top of the cheese.
- For the topping, blend the butter and honey. Brush the tops of the rolls evenly with all of the butter-honey mixture.
- Sprinkle Everything But the Bagel Seasoning (just enough for sprinkling on top of rolls) on top of the butter-honey mixture.
- Cover and bake for 10 minutes. Remove cover and bake for another 5-10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the tops are slightly browned.

Mix eggs with blender, fry in skillet like a pancake, when done, take (slide) out and lay across the buns in pan as one giant egg.
