    This creamy, Ultimate Chicken Casserole is simply made with rotisserie chicken, egg noodles, French style green beans, shredded cheese, a blend of cream of celery and cream of chicken soups and sour cream, and poultry seasoning! Topped with crispy crunchy fried onions! This easy and delicious chicken casserole is ready to eat in 45 minutes.

    Is there anything more comforting than a chicken noodle casserole? You'll love how easy this casserole is to make, and your family will love how filling and flavor packed it is! Leftovers are even better the next day; making this the ultimate chicken casserole! I hope you enjoy my version!

    It's a comforting noodle casserole just like my Tuna Noodle Casserole and Beef Noodle Casserole!

    Ingredients You'll Need

    Ingredients measured out in individual containers on countertop.

    Chicken - rotisserie chicken is a great shortcut and very convenient to pick up at the grocery store. Use the regular flavor (or traditional flavor).

    Wide Egg Noodles - as you know, I'm the biggest rice fan, but for this casserole, those tender creamy egg noodles fit the bill! Don't get me wrong, I love me some pasta, too!

    Canned Cream Soups - yes, yes, I like to use cream of chicken soup and cream of celery soup for this particular casserole. These ingredients are legendary for this dish because of the ultra creaminess they provide.

    Sour Cream - adding sour cream to the soup mixture adds a nice little twang and a touch more richness. It's similar to my Poppy Seed Chicken Casserole that everyone rants and raves over!

    French Style Green Beans - what makes these canned green beans a little different is that they're julienned (or cut into thin strips). They're tender and add just the right amount of salty flavor. You could use corn instead for a sweeter flavor profile,

    Fried Onions - It wouldn't be a southern casserole without some sort of crispy cruncy topping! Fried onions are the top choice because of the unique flavor they add (a game changer indeed!).

    Cheese - cheddar cheese tastes really good in this casserole; the main thing is to shred your own cheese for the best cheesy flavor and creamy texture.

    Seasonings - we only add two seasonings - sodium-free poultry seasoning and parsley flakes; the soups, cheese, rotisserie chicken, and green beans provide just the right amount of saltiness.

    Ingredient Substitutions

    I love how versatile this recipe is! Even though it is most delicious with the listed ingredients, here are some great substitutes in case you need them.

    Rotisserie chicken3 cups cooked chopped or shredded chicken breasts or thighs
    French style green beansmixed vegetables, whole kernel corn, or frozen green beans
    Wide egg noodlesI like spiral or penne for an alternate but any kind of pasta will work
    French fried onionscrumbled crackers (Ritz) or panko bread crumbs (mix with 2 tablespoon butter then spread on top of casserole before baking
    Cheddar cheeseMonterey jack, pepper jack, or parmesan
    Cream of celery soupCream of mushroom soup

    How to Make Ultimate Chicken Casserole

    Here is a short overview of the instructions. Use the recipe card when you make it!

    The canned soups, sour cream, milk, parsley flakes, and poultry seasoning in a large mixing bowl.

    Step 1. Whisk together the soups, sour cream, milk, parsley flakes, and poultry seasoning.

    Chicken, cooked noodles, cheddar cheese, and green beans added to the bowl of soup mixture.

    Step 2. Stir in the chicken, cooked noodles, cheddar cheese, and green beans.

    Step 3. Pour into the casserole dish. Top with fried onions.

    Step 4. Bake as directed!

    What to Serve With It

    The ultimate chicken casserole is an "all-in-one meal," but you can't go wrong serving it with hot rolls and a simple green salad. Who could turn those yummies down!

    If you also need a dessert option, consider milk (or coffee) and cookies! I like cookies paired with this casserole because they're not too heavy or rich. Here are my top cookie recipes:

    Cook the pasta al dente because they will continue to cook in the oven.

    Add some crispy cooked bacon pieces to the onion topping before baking for added flavor.

    What are some good side dishes for a chicken casserole?

    Because there's a lot going on with this casserole, I'd suggest a something simple such as a green salad and rolls. If you want another vegetable, these roasted carrots and parsnips would be a great addition! Bake them in the oven at the same as the casserole.

    Can I make this casserole ahead of time?

    Absolutely! Mix up all the ingredients except for the onion topping. Cover and place in the fridge for 24-48 hours. When ready to bake, place into a casserole dish, top with the onions and bake as directed.

    How do I store ultimate chicken casserole?

    Ingredients

    • 10.5 oz cream of chicken soup
    • 10.5 oz cream of celery soup
    • 8 oz sour cream
    • ¼ cup milk I use 2%
    • 1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes to release the flavor, rub the parsley flakes between your fingers first
    • ½ teaspoon poultry seasoning sodium free
    • 1 rotisserie chicken, skin and bones discarded.  Meat shredded or chopped into bite-size pieces
    • 8 oz wide egg noodles, cooked and drained 8 oz is the dry weight measurement. use a scale for best results
    • 1 cup freshly shredded cheddar cheese
    • 14.5 oz canned French style green beans, drained
    • 2.8 oz French's crispy fried onions

    Before You Begin

    • It's a good idea to read through the ingredients, directions, and notes once or twice before you begin making the recipe for a smoother and more successful baking experience.

    How to Make Ultimate Chicken Casserole

    • Preheat the oven to 350F. Spray a 9x9-inch casserole dish with non-stick spray.
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the soups, sour cream, milk, parsley flakes, and poultry seasoning until well blended.
    • Stir in the chicken, noodles, cheddar cheese, and green beans. Give it a good stir to make sure all the ingredients are blended together. You can do a taste test and add more seasoning. Note that when you add the fried onions in the next step, they'll add a good amount of flavor to the casserole.
    • Pour into the casserole dish. Top with fried onions and bake on the center rack position for 25-30 minutes until onions are browned and casserole is bubbly.
